KEY QUESTION Learning Objectives Learning Outcomes Why do Christians put 3 crosses in an Easter garden?   NB Links with FS resurrection plan Taught beforehand The children will learn: About an Easter garden. Why an Easter garden has 3 crosses. Why Christians think 3 cross are important in an Easter garden. By the end of this unit: Emerging (Some children) I can talk about an Easter garden. Expected (All children) I can explain what an Easter garden is and why Christians might put 3 crosses in it. Exceeding (Few children) I can explain why Easter gardens are important to Christians and make some reference to the Easter story.

Step 1: Class Discussion ‘What is needed in an Easter garden Step 1: Class Discussion ‘What is needed in an Easter garden?’ Making a class Easter gardens outside as a class. Step 2 Teacher retelling the Easter story as the objects are placed in the garden

Step 3: DVD Watching a simple DVD of the Easter story together as a class. Identifying key elements of the story

Step 4:Recalling what is needed in a Easter garden and why, by linking ideas to the Easter story. Explaining why there are 3 crosses, one for Jesus, two for robbers.

Lily takes the story further making her own model of what happened during continuous provision time

Finished models of an Easter garden. Why has Lily chosen these items?

Step 5: Happy & Sad Colours Explaining the cross is a very important symbol to Christians and it reminds them of a sad day when Jesus died and also a happy day when Jesus came to life again. Making links to the story

EYFS End of Unit Assessment Piece Why do you think there are 3 crosses in the Easter garden? Evidence for expected outcome: I can explain what an Easter garden is & why Christians might put 3 crosses in it.

What might you do differently? Towards Exceeding Outcomes (Few children) I can explain why Easter gardens are important to Christians and make some reference to the Easter story. Here are a few examples: Make links with other Easter gardens & crosses the children may have seen in church, school, home or community. Link back all items in an Easter garden with the story. Suggest why Christians may think it is important to have crosses. Deepen children's understanding by linking the importance of the cross with Jesus.
