What is it? Signs and Symptoms Compartment syndrome is a condition that causes pain due to bleeding and the swelling of tissues. Signs and Symptoms are: ● Severe pain( feels like hot pins and needles) ● Internal bleeding ● Swelling ● No muscle strength (Healthline,2017)

Population Sports: Motion: Repetitive impact activity such as running and fast walking Gender: Most common injured are male and female athletes under the age of 30 Why has the injury happened: Its associated with increased pressure in a muscle compartment with exertion. If the connective tissue that binds the muscle fiber in a compartment doesn’t also expand ,pressure builds up in the compartment (Mayo Clinic,1998-2017)

Treatment/Prevention Treatments for compartment syndrome: Surgery Ice therapy Pain medication Physical Therapy Rest Prevention of compartment syndrome is: R.I.C.E Stretch Proper equipment while taking part in the activity (Mayo Clinic,2017)

Important Information Acute compartment syndrome is a medical emergency. A chronic compartment syndrome is not It can be present in the abdomen too Anticoagulants can be a risk factor in developing compartment syndrome (EMS1 , 2016)
