A Few Refreshers Noun: Person, place, or thing Examples: girl, school, book Proper noun: Specific person, place, or thing Examples: Miss H., Kennedy HS, The Hunger Games Adjective: Word that describes a noun (often emotional terms, colors, sizes, rankings) Examples: Happy, sad, red, blue, big, small, excellent, horrible Verb: Action words (ANYTHING that you DO) Examples: Run, walk, yell, laugh, play, see, etc.
Tips on Test-Taking When matching, always pay attention to the definition. If it begins with “to,” it is a verb (i.e. Walk: to move by taking steps) If the definition contains adjectives, the word is an adjective (i.e. Cheerful: happy; bubbly) If the definition contains “a/an” or “the,” it is a noun (i.e. Tree: a plant rooted in the ground, consisting of a trunk, branches, and leaves)
