How Title I Works 1. The federal government provides funding to states each year for Title I. 2. The Florida Department of Education sends the money to the district. 3. The school district identifies eligible schools and provides Title I funds. 4. Sawgrass Bay Elementary implements programs and funds additional staff with these funds.

How are Title I funds utilized? Budget Amount General Budget $208,885.00 Family Engagement $8,801.87 After School Tutoring $8,000.00 Professional Development Grade Total $199,837.13 $425,524.00 General Budget – an additional teacher, teacher assistants, instructional coaches, ELL specialist, computer programs, phonics curriculum, supplemental resources. Family Engagement – media nights, food, homework help, newsletters, flyers, materials for check out in the resource room, family events. After School Tutoring – busing for tutoring program. Professional Development – substitutes, travel expenses, supplies, stipends for summer meetings.

Who makes decisions on how funds are used? School Advisory Council (SAC) composed of: Parents, Teachers, Staff, and Administration Annual Title I Stakeholder Meeting composed of Business Partners, Community Members, Teachers, Staff, Parents and Administration Parents are CRITICAL in this process!

No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Education act signed into law in 2002 that aims to: -Ensure that every student has a high-quality education. -Challenge and motivate students. -Provide highly qualified teachers, who use proven teaching methods. -Ensure a safe, drug free learning environment.

Parents’ Rights Under NCLB Request the qualifications of your child’s teacher Be notified if your child is taught for more than 4 consecutive weeks by a teacher who is not highly qualified Request opportunities for regular meetings with staff in order to make suggestions Participate in decisions relating to the education of your child Submit a written comment on the school-wide program plan when the school makes the plan available to the district (if you are not satisfied with the plan)

Parent-School Compact School Responsibilities Parent/Guardian Responsibilities Student Responsibilities Outlines how parents, the entire school staff, and students will share the responsibility for improved student academic achievement. This must be reviewed and revised annually with parents.

Parent Involvement Policy Requirements Involve parents in a meaningful way in the development, implementation, and review of the parental involvement program Parents serve on SAC and PTO and parents are notified of up and coming monthly meetings via school newsletter, school website, school call-out system and the school marquee Assist parents in understanding academic content standards, assessments, and how to monitor and improve the achievement of their children Parent/Teacher conferences, Open House, Curriculum Night, FSA Night, Math and Science Night, Science Fair, and Title I Night Provide materials and training to help Title I parents work with their children to improve their children's achievement Parent Resource Room, Media Nights, PTO meetings, SAC meetings, FSA night, Math and Science night, Book Fairs, Literacy Events, Family School Liaison

Bobcat builders ROBOTICS Team Competition robotics team led my Mr. Bunnell. Open to 4th & 5th graders who would like to design, build and program robots. Application required. Meetings: Monday & Thursday afternoon

STUDENT COUNCIL It takes a positive attitude and strong leadership skills to participate in our Student Council, led by Mrs. Cantrell. Open to 1 representative per class in grades 3rd–5th and 10 additional representatives will be chosen by interview. Meetings: 1st & 3rd Tuesday at 7:00 AM

1st & 3rd Wednesday of every month 2:30-3:30 PM SBE Art Club 1st & 3rd Wednesday of every month 2:30-3:30 PM Open to 3rd-5th graders interested in learning art techniques and making art! Drawing, pottery, painting, mixed media, sculpture & more!

ENVIRONMENTAL CLUB If you like gardening, recycling and school beautification this is the club for you. Open to 3rd, 4th & 5th graders and led by Mrs. Motyl and Mrs. Merrill.

SAFETY PATROL Coach Greene’s on the lookout for HONEST, HELPFUL and RESPECTFUL leaders. These students need to follow the Covey Habits and be an example to others. This club is open to 3rd-5th graders.

STEM Club Science, Technology, Engineering and Math! 3rd – 5th grade students that are invited to join will participate in preparing for the STEM Bowl competition in May.

STUDENT LIGHTHOUSE TEAM Open to 4th & 5th graders who will promote leadership at home and school. Students will help "Leader-ize" our campus, greet visitors, and assist in the planning our Leadership Day. Approximately 20 members will be chosen based an application and interview process. This team is led by Mrs. Self and Mrs. Diaz.

National Elementary Honor Society (NEHS) This is a prestigious organization of 4th & 5th grade students that maintain a 85% GPA all year. It is an invitation only club led by Ms. Palm and Ms. Martineau. If you received a letter to attend the parent meeting, it will be held in the media center following this presentation.

You must complete a commitment form SAWGRASS BAY SINGERS This club is open to 4th & 5th Graders who love to sing and perform. Rehearsal will be every Wednesday morning 7:50-8:20 AM in room 130. You must complete a commitment form to join the ensemble.

Be sure to join us the second Tuesday of every monTh for Media Night, which includes homework help, resource check out and snacks.
