What is GOVERNMENT??

Government…. the system by which a community, etc., is ruled I am the ruler. I was born into power. Make sure to vote for our new leader.

Where can you spot types of government??

Where can you spot types of government?? EVERYWHERE

Why is government important???

Why is government important??? Philosopher Thomas Hobbes said we are all greedy and selfish. Without government and laws, people would run wild over society. The purpose of government is to maintain order and prevent social chaos.

All governments are created to do the same job….. Organize the Country

organize its government. However….. There are different ways that a country can organize its government.

Looking at Government Like a Sandwich….

Just like government, a sandwich has one general purpose……. Are all sandwiches the same???? There are also many characteristics for government. Do you know what type of sandwich you have simply by looking at it from a distance? How can you determine what type of sandwich you have? Most sandwiches have specific characteristics – some type of meat, cheese, sauce, vegetable, etc. Governments also have specific characteristics to help people classify the system. What characteristics do we need to look for to classify forms of government?

How do governments distribute power???? Unitary A form of government in which power flows from the central government to the local government. The central government has the ultimate power. Confederation A form of government in which power flows from the local governments to the central government. The local governments have ultimate power. Membership is voluntary in a confederation. Members of a confederation are often trying to achieve a common goal. Federal A form of government in which power is divided between one central and several regional authorities - power is shared between various levels of government

How do governments determine citizen participation???? Autocratic A form of government in which one person has unlimited power. The citizens do not participate in government. Examples of this form of government include dictatorships and absolute monarchies. Oligarchic A form of government in which a small group has the power. The citizens do not participate in government. Democratic A form of government in which the people have the power. Citizens participate in government by electing governmental leaders.

What are the forms of a democratic government???? Presidential A democratic form of government in which the executive and legislative branches are separate. The head of government (chief executive) is only in the executive branch. Parliamentary A democratic form of government in which the executive and legislative branches are linked. The head of government (chief executive) is selected within the legislative branch and also makes up the executive branch.
