IF: What kinds of life lessons can you find in stories?

Review: Ways of Retelling a Story - character development - issues and themes - what's happening, and what led up to this

What is theme?

Problem- drives the plot Theme- a question about right and wrong Moral- a lesson about right and wrong, or a virtue (hard work, bravery, etc.) that is promoted Note: a moral can ALSO be the theme

Problem- The main character's family has almost no money, and the kids are suffering. Theme- What will people do to help their loved ones? Moral- Love can overcome everything.

Problem- The main character has major brain damage, and gets a computer chip implanted in his brain. His family is horrified by this, and alienates him. Theme- What defines humanity?

While you watch - What problems do the characters have? - What are themes you see?
