Lighting of the candles Prelude “Prelude on ‘Netherlands’” ~Fisk Lighting of the candles

*CALL TO WORSHIP L: Jesus said, “Much is required from the person to whom much is given.” P: We are those who have been given much love, much hope, much peace in Jesus Christ.

L: What have you done with what you have been given L: What have you done with what you have been given? Where in the world have you invested this legacy from the Lord? P: As we praise and worship God the giver, we will examine ourselves.

*Hymn #469 “Morning Has Broken” v.1 Morning has broken like the first morning, Blackbird has spoken like the first bird.

*Hymn #469 “Morning Has Broken” v.3 Mine is the sunlight! Mine is the morning Born of the one light Eden saw play!

*Hymn #469 “Morning Has Broken” v.3 Praise with elation, Praise every morning, God’s re-creation of the new day!

*PRAYER OF CONFESSION (unison) Gracious One, we confess how inadequately we have honored the talents you have given to us by recognizing them and thanking you by offering them

and using them in your service and for your glory and using them in your service and for your glory. Some of what you have seeded in our beings as glorious potential we may have chosen to ignore, intentionally deny, or hide.

And we confess that we have neglected to fully develop your greatest gift, your gift of faith. We sorrowfully also confess, O God, that in some instances,

we have developed our abilities to serve our own purposes and to bring glory only to ourselves. Forgive both our unfaithfulness of doubt, fear,

and timidity, and our self-pride. In Jesus Christ, Amen and timidity, and our self-pride. In Jesus Christ, Amen. (Silence is observed for individual reflection and prayer)

*GLORIA PATRI #579 Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost; As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen, amen.

CHOIR ANTHEM (see insert) “A Thanksgiving Flourish” ~Paige/Angerman

Time With Young Christians

PROCLAIMING THE WORD SCRIPTURE READING: Psalm 123

To you I lift up my eyes, O you who are enthroned in the heavens To you I lift up my eyes, O you who are enthroned in the heavens! As the eyes of servants look to the hand of their master, as the eyes of a maid to the hand of her mistress, so our eyes look to the Lord our God,

until he has mercy upon us until he has mercy upon us. Have mercy upon us, O Lord, have mercy upon us, for we have had more than enough of contempt. Our soul has had more than its fill of the scorn of those who are at ease, of the contempt of the proud.

SCRIPTURE READING: Matthew 25:14-30

‘For it is as if a man, going on a journey, summoned his slaves and entrusted his property to them; to one he gave five talents, to another two, to another one, to each according to his ability. Then he went away.

The one who had received the five talents went off at once and traded with them, and made five more talents. In the same way, the one who had the two talents made two more talents. But the one who had received the one talent went off and

dug a hole in the ground and hid his master’s money dug a hole in the ground and hid his master’s money. After a long time the master of those slaves came and settled accounts with them. Then the one who had received the five talents came forward, bringing five more talents, saying,

“Master, you handed over to me five talents; see, I have made five more talents.” His master said to him, “Well done, good and trustworthy slave; you have been trustworthy in a few things, I will put you in charge of many things;

enter into the joy of your master enter into the joy of your master.” And the one with the two talents also came forward, saying, “Master, you handed over to me two talents; see, I have made two more talents.” His master said to him,

“Well done, good and trustworthy slave; you have been trustworthy in a few things, I will put you in charge of many things; enter into the joy of your master.” Then the one who had received the one talent also came forward,

saying, “Master, I knew that you were a harsh man, reaping where you did not sow, and gathering where you did not scatter seed; so I was afraid, and I went and hid your talent in the ground. Here you have what is yours.”

But his master replied, “You wicked and lazy slave But his master replied, “You wicked and lazy slave! You knew, did you, that I reap where I did not sow, and gather where I did not scatter? Then you ought to have invested my money with the bankers,

and on my return I would have received what was my own with interest and on my return I would have received what was my own with interest. So take the talent from him, and give it to the one with ten talents. For to all those who have, more will be given, and they will have an abundance;

but from those who have nothing, even what they have will be taken away. As for this worthless slave, throw him into the outer darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.”

L: This is the Word of the Lord. P: Thanks be to God!
