MEASUREMENT OF THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY USING THERMAL COMPARATOR
AIM To measure the thermal conductivity of composite materials in unsteady state condition using thermal comparator.
SCOPE OF THE PROJECT * Now a days, the thermal conductivity value for materials like Iron, Aluminium, Copper, etc., can be taken from the data book. * But for composite materials there is no such data. * This project helps us to find the value of thermal conductivity for composite materials also.
OBJECTIVES * To calibrate the known thermal conductivity of the materials. * To find the thermal conductivity for composite materials. * To analysis the value of thermal conductivity using ANSYS.
COMPONENTS USED. 1. Wood. 2. Phosphor-Bronze Balls (2 nos). 3 COMPONENTS USED 1. Wood 2. Phosphor-Bronze Balls (2 nos) 3. Microwave oven 4. Thermocouples 5. Potentiometer
FORMULA Q= -kA dT/dx Where A – Area in m2 dT/dx –Temperature gradient in k/m k –Thermal conductivity in W/mK Q –Heat transfer in W
METHODOLOGY. First the whole setup is heated in oven METHODOLOGY * First the whole setup is heated in oven. * Then the setup is left and placed on the testing samples. * The thermal e.m.f for every 10 seconds will be noted. * The two graph is drawn using this value. * By comparing the graphs the thermal conductivity is calculated.
TIMELINE STAGE 1:Literature survey and materials collection in january STAGE 2:To fabricate the thermal comparator in february STAGE 3:To analysis the thermal conductivity value in ANSYS in march
