The future we are building Lessons we can take from the new space race https://www.inverse.com/article/40950-elon-musk-falcon-heavy-launch-simulation https://www.facebook.com/VFHive/videos/935608213211964/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zIwLWfaAg-8 Welcome and Intros

In the spirit of… 5 mins

2 Minutes What excites you about the future?

The Long Now http://longnow.org/about/ 1 min Ideally, it [the 10 000 year clock] would do for thinking about time what the photographs of Earth from space have done for thinking about the environment. Such icons reframe the way people think.

Underlying beliefs The conversations we have today are the building blocks for what happens tomorrow. 1 min

What’s next for the Conditions for community project? 10 mins to this point. This is the question we are currently asking. We are coming to the end of the project and we are starting to think about what is next. How did we get to today

Origins Three observations: ‘open space’ to think together the emergence informal networks outside of formal structures The need to support self-organisation

A future We know we have to work differently, expand the sphere of our possibilities and enable different voices to contribute to conversations with ease.

Project Exploring the conditions that enable us all to connect, collaborate, co-create – however we think about working together –  both within and across traditional organisational boundaries.

Why …so that we can contribute to creating enabling conditions through the leaders and leadership we develop. “System leaders focus on creating the conditions that can produce change and that can eventually cause change to be self- sustaining.”

Perspective Reflections: We looked back first We started with one view of the future We started to question the context that view would be set in Image 14th Feb 1990 – Voyager 1 spacecraft looked back and took a picture of our solar system from beyond neptune. The image is called ‘A pale blue dot’ – earth caught in a sunbeam. https://www.nasa.gov/jpl/voyager/pale-blue-dot-images-turn-25 Carl Segan quote - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GO5FwsblpT8

2 Minutes When we think about the future for health and care. What else will be around us? 15 mins to this point Where can we look for inspiration?

Where can we find relevant learning? Lessons from the new space race

Bezos compares space to the internet “We’re trying to lower the price of admission into space so that thousands of entrepreneurs can then do amazing, surprising things.” Jeff Bezos Five key points: Infrastructure enables involvement Building on what already exists If it doesn’t exist how can we create it The recognition that to meet a goal, different thinkers need to be involved Trust in others to co-create the future https://www.geekwire.com/2016/jeff-bezos-blue-origin-space-internet/ http://video.vanityfair.com/watch/the-new-establishment-summit-the-power-of-jeff-bezos

2 Minutes What learning can we take from applying this way of thinking? Where can we look for inspiration?

Thinking about the future “I’m just trying to think about the future and not be sad” Elon Musk Five key points: Why? Why look to the future when there is so much to solve in the here and now Looking at the future as a series of probabilities Progression is not inevitable and if left untouched – regression Recognition a lot of people required for progression Dual motivation of humanity/excitement - Value of inspiring humanity underrated

2 mins In thinking about the future of health and care. What is not inevitable? Where can we look for inspiration?
