Figure 1 Cold- and Heat-Induced Homeoviscous Adaptation in C. elegans In low temperature, PAQR-2 mediates cold-induced signaling through NHR-49 to induce the expression of FAT-7, which increases unsaturated lipid contents in cellular membrane and offsets the cold-induced reduction in membrane fluidity. Heat induces the expression of ACDH-11, which sequesters intracellular C11/12 fatty acids and reduces NHR-49-regulated FAT-7 expression. This leads to reduced unsaturated lipid contents and offsets the heat-induced increase in membrane fluidity. Cell 2015 161, 962-963DOI: (10.1016/j.cell.2015.04.046) Copyright © 2015 Elsevier Inc.
