Objectives of the Retreat 1. Introduce the program 2. Meet & Greet individual & group goals 3. Review GME website resources 4. Review concept of resilience and ways to enhance resilience as a physician 5. Practice a mindfulness exercise

Wellness Champion Expectations 1 year commitment to the Program Attend the kick-off retreat and quarterly evening program meetings Be a liaison to programs and residents on wellness initiatives Communicate and disseminate resources to programs Promote professionalism and Just Culture at our institution Champion efforts to improve wellness across the School of Medicine Engage with GME and hospital leadership in assessing the outcome of wellness initiatives

What is resilience? resilience is one’s capacity to cope with stress and stressors within his/her environment and the ability to interact in a manner to promote personal well-being. Attainment of effective coping skills as a powerful survival method is a defining characteristic of a resilient individual. the ability of a substance or object to spring back into shape; elasticity.

What is resident burnout? "loss of enthusiasm for work, feelings of cynicism, and a low sense of personal accomplishment."  As defined by Mayo Clinic/AMA study A syndrome of emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and feelings of decreased personal accomplishment 2014 study: U. North Carolina 70% of residents with burnout. Correlation with depression 31% of those with burnout had depression; 51% reported depression during residency
