Agenda Graduation Requirements Pre-AP/AP Endorsement Pathways Pre-Registration 2018-19 Questions?

Graduation Requirements Students must successfully earn at least 26 credits in a plan of study that includes specific courses in English, math, science, social studies, and other required courses and electives. Students must also select and complete an endorsement as mandated under HB5.

Foundation Graduation Plan IMPORTANT: The Distinguished Level of Achievement is required for automatic admission to state 4 year universities.

Choices 5-8: Electives (Below are the remaining graduation requirements) □ 1.0 P.E.-Foundations of P.E. - (Athletics, Dance, NJROTC, Marching Band (Fall only)) □ 1.0 Fine Arts –Visual Arts, Band, Orchestra, Dance, Theatre, Technical Theatre, Choir, Floral Design □ .5 Health- (Principles of Health Science) □ 2.0 LOTE □ Electives

Pre-AP and AP Advanced courses provide students an opportunity to experience course content at a more in-depth level. These courses generally taught at a faster pace and require a higher level of student commitment in time and effort.

Advanced Placement (AP) Courses Taught by GHS Teachers College level curriculum Students take exam in May (costs about $90)-can earn credit with a passing score (3, 4, 5 – score and credit earned varies by college) Weighted points for GPA AP Credit Policies by College: https://apstudent.collegeboard.org/creditandplacement/search-credit-policies

New Pre-AP/AP Guidelines Petition for Pre-AP/AP Course Exit To ensure that students allow sufficient time to become acclimated to the courses and what the Pre-AP/AP curriculum can offer, Georgetown ISD expects that any student who enrolls in a Pre-AP/AP course will remain in the course until the second progress report grading cycle (6th week of school).

Endorsement Pathways Endorsement pathways are intended to give students opportunity to take a concentration of related courses in high school to help them be better prepared for post- secondary education and careers.

Please Note… In general, students must earn 4 credits from a sequence of related courses designated for a particular endorsement pathway. While it is possible for students to meet the requirements for more than one endorsement, “collecting” endorsements is not really the intent of the mandate. Scheduling conflicts may require students to set priorities regarding the endorsement completion requirement.

Pre-Registration Students are expected to complete a pre-registration worksheet with parents. They will use this plan to enter course choices on the Skyward student database. There will be opportunity to make adjustments at a later date.
