Networking Mr. Paulk

Two main types of Networks (LANs VS WANs) A local-area network (LAN) is a computer network that spans a relatively small area. Most often, a LAN is confined to a single room, building or group of buildings, however, one LAN can be connected to other LANs over any distance via telephone lines and radio waves. A WAN (wide area network) is a communications network that spans a large geographic area such as across cities, states, or countries. They can be private to connect parts of a business or they can be more public to connect smaller networks together.

WHAT DO THEY LOOK LIKE? LAN WAN

DISCUSION QUESTION! Take the next 10 minutes and visit this website: http://www.diffen.com/difference/LAN_vs_WAN List the following: 5 characteristics of a LAN 5 characteristics of a WAN 5 examples of a LAN 5 examples of a WAN

Check out this image to the left! What would a LAN look like in your own home? Would it connect to a gaming console? Would it connect to a laptop? Take the next 10 minutes and draw your own LAN that would be in your home! Be creative and ready to explain it!

Check out this image to the left! What would a WAN look like in your own town? Would it connect to your house then town then state? Would it connect to globally? Take the next 10 minutes and draw your own WAN that would be in your town! Be creative and ready to explain it! Hint: PAN = Personal Area Network (Cellphone or Tablet etc.) Hint: NAN = Neighborhood Area Network
