Monday, February 13th Write out the definitions of the words from The Devil’s Arithmetic. 1. relentlessly- (adv) unyielding or unstopping 2. meager- (adj) deficient in quality or quantity 3. elusive- (adj) cleverly evasive or hard to catch 4. burnished-(past tense verb) to make smooth and bright 5. guttural- (adj) (of a speech sound) produced in the throat; harsh-sounding.

Tuesday, February 14th Write out the definitions of the words from The Devil’s Arithmetic. 6. venerable- (adj) commanding respect 7. ominous- (adj) threatening 8. cloying- (adj) disgust or sicken (someone) with an excess of sweetness, 9. exodus- (noun) a mass departure of people, especially emigrants. 10. misplaced modifier- structuring your sentence incorrectly so the wrong description is applied to a concept. (Ex: Slicing the apple, this snack satisfied Timothy's hunger.)
