Explain Symbiotic Relationships Commensalism: One organism is benefitted by relationship and the other is neither harmed nor benefitted. Mutualism: Both organisms are benefitted by relationship and neither are harmed Parasitism: One benefits and the other is harmed. Predation: One organism preys or hunts the other organism.

Parasitism Leeches attach to host organism and suck its blood! The host is harmed and the leech is benefited by a free meal!

What’s the relationship? Woodpecker and Tree ants In the spring, the southern Rufous woodpecker and the black tree ant truce for a short while during egg laying. The ants protect the bird’s eggs from attacks by the nest The bird protects the ants’ nest from other birds while the chosen bird is nesting there.

What’s the relationship? Cattle Egrets and Cattle Livestock movement cause insects to stir up in grazing fields. As the insects are stirred up, the cattle egrets following the livestock catch and feed upon them.
