Usos del futuro Español 3

Ustedes ya saben Before you learned how to use the future tense you used a present tense cheat to express doing something in the future. Ex. Voy a bailar. I am going to dance. - Now that you’ve been introduced to the future tense, it’s important to know when you should use the future tense of a verb and when you should still use that present tense cheat.

Present: ir + A Simple Present Ir + a + infinitive Future plans, arrangements and intentions are often expressed using simple present or ir + a + an infinitive. Ex. Mañana tengo una reunión. Tomorrow I have a meeting. Voy a comprar una revista. I am going to buy a magazine. Simple Present Ir + a + infinitive

General predictions General predictions expressed using future tense: Ex. Lloverá en el norte. It will rain in the north. Mis niños tendrán ojos marrones. My children will have brown eyes.

If you’re sure Predictions with a high degree of certainty use present simple or ir + a + infinitive. Ex. Mañana llueve aquí. Mañana va a llover aquí. It’s going to rain here tomorrow.

Promises and determination Using the future tense implies you are serious or determined about doing something. So promises are future tense. You can also express what you definitely WILL or WON’T do. Ex. Te prometo que lo haré. I promise you I will do it. No iré a esa reunión. I will not go to that meeting.

proposals Questions beginning “Shall I/we” or “Will I/we” are expressed using the simple present. Ex: ¿Almorzamos juntos mañana? Shall we eat lunch together tomorrow? ¿Te llamo a las ocho esta noche? Shall I call you at eight tonight?

Snap decisions If you are just now making a decision at the moment you are speaking, you should use the simple present. Ex. No te levantes. Me voy. Don’t get up. I’ll go. Yo pido la hamburguesa. I will order the hamburger.

Future perfect The future perfect is when you say “will have” and a verb. Just as in the present perfect, you will use haber and a verb ending in –ado or –ido. PRESENT EX: Yo he comido mucha pizza. I have eaten a lot of pizza. FUTURE EX: Yo habré comido mucha pizza para mañana. I will have eaten a lot of pizza by tomorrow.
