Lightning       BY Advay, William , Jacob

What is lightning?  A bright flash of electricity coming down from the sky. It happens for a few seconds. It can come in many different colors. Purple lightning is the hottest out of all of them. Blue lightning is the second hottest.

Causes of Lightning Within a thundercloud way up in the sky many small pieces of ice [frozen rain] drop, bump, and make lightning.   After a lot of rain, electric charges concentrate around anything that sticks up. Clouds carry pieces  of ice.  The ice moves very fast and stirs up electricity in the clouds.  When the electricity is strong enough lightning flashes.  It will happen everywhere around the world, mostly in places with precipitation and ideal humidity and atmospheric conditions.

Effects of Lightning If lightning strikes trees, they are set on fire. When lightning strikes power lines, it shortens your electricity. Lightning can destroy buildings. That's why there are lightning rods. Lightning can injure people.

Interesting facts about lightning Lightning can strike in an instant. It can happen when a volcano explodes. Lightning is approximately 54,000 degrees Fahrenheit. Lightning has more deaths than hurricanes and tornadoes combined.

Lightning vocabulary discharge The flow of current down the lightning channel. Return electric charge that travels from the ground to a thunder cloud. Electrical shock Often dangerous discharge in a part of a body. Static electricity Electricity that builds on an object.

Can lightning strike twice? In a matter of fact lightning can strike at least fifty times or more! Red lightning is the third hottest lightning.
