Climates of Western Canada: Factors Affecting Temperature
Presentation transcript:

Tofino, B.C., Canada Temperate Rainforest Miss Johannson Temperate rainforests can be found in: Coastal British Columbia, Chile, New Zealand, and Australia Climate (annual averages): Precipitation: > 200 cm Temperature: 5 to 25°C Plants: tall trees with epiphytes, forest floor: ferns, fungi, mosses e.g., coastal redwood, fireweed, western skunk cabbage Animals: mostly live on floor, eat seeds insects in bark (e.g., cougars, black bears, squirrels) Extra Info: Soil is usually acidic and low in nutrients. Ocean winds drop moisture on the windward sides of mountain ranges. There are natural hot springs on a nearby island that are truly incredible to relax in on a cold day. * Science 10 Chapter 1.1 Biome poster project grading criteria Name (1 mark) Place (city, province/state, country) (1 mark) Biome type (1 mark) Where else is this type of biome found? (1 mark) Climate (include precipitation/temperature) (2 marks) Name 3 of each that are unique to this biome Plants (3 marks) Animals (3 marks) Map (show location of city and span of biome) (2 marks) Why you chose your location (1 mark) Pictures/images/diagrams (2 marks) At least 2 pieces of extra info. about your biome (3 marks) Why I chose Tofino: It’s one of my favourite places to go, and I grew up fishing on the west coast with my dad. * Tofino, B.C.
