Polygons

A polygon is a closed figure formed by line segments that do not cross.

Polygon Sort Sort the polygons into groups by characteristics.

Polygon Number of Sides Triangle 3 Quadrilateral 4 Pentagon 5 Hexagon 6 Octagon 8 Decagon 10

Types of Quadrilaterals

Rectangle with 4 congruent sides. Quadrilateral Characteristics Parallelogram Opposite sides are congruent and parallel. Rectangle Parallelogram with 4 right angles. Rhombus Parallelogram with 4 congruent sides. Square Rectangle with 4 congruent sides. Kite Quadrilateral with 2 pairs of adjacent sides that are congruent. Trapezoid Quadrilateral with only one pair of parallel sides.

Types of Triangles

Triangle Characteristics Acute Three acute angles Obtuse One obtuse angle Right One right angle Equilateral Three congruent sides Isosceles At least two congruent sides Scalene No congruent sides

Closure Compare the two polygons.
