Nutrition Education for Grades 1-6 Teacher’s Guides Original Songs Parent Handout (English, Spanish, French, Traditional Chinese) Poster Serving Up MyPlate is a new collection of classroom materials that helps elementary school teachers integrate nutrition education into Math, Science, English Language Arts, and Health. This yummy curriculum from Team Nutrition introduces the importance of eating from all five food groups using the MyPlate icon. Students also learn the importance of physical activity to staying healthy. teamnutrition.usda.gov

There are 3 levels: Level 1 (1st and 2nd grade), level 2 (3rd and 4th grade), and level 3 (5th and 6th grade) that are aligned to educational standards, including Common Core Standards for English Language Arts and Math. Each Teacher’s Guide has three inquiry–driven lessons that help children discover nutrition, explain their understandings, and reflect upon their experiences — all of which encourage a lasting awareness of what it means to be healthy. Each level includes activities using original songs that help students learn about healthy choices in an engaging and memorable way. Lyrics are included in each of the Teacher’s Guides. A large two-sided Eat Smart to Play Hard With MyPlate poster is also included. Schools can also order or download a mini (81/2 x 11) version of the poster to use as a handout. MyPlate at Home is a colorful handout (4 page booklet) for parents that reinforces the class lessons at home. It’s also available in Spanish, French and Traditional Chinese. Downloadable files for all of these materials are on the Team Nutrition Web site. Schools participating in the Child Nutrition programs can order print copies of materials as well. The Teacher’s Guides comes with 35 copies MyPlate at Home handouts for parents (English), a sample copy of the Spanish MyPlate at Home handout, the large poster, and a songs CD. A CD of the Blast Off! Game is also included with the Teacher’s Guide for Level 3. When additional handouts are needed, schools can order additional copies of the MyPlate at Home parent handouts. To order visit the Serving Up MyPlate page on the Team Nutrition Web Site and click on the link to the Team Nutrition Order Form. www.teamnutrition.usda.gov
