How to Read a Textbook

4 Reading Myths Read every word. One reading is sufficient. Some sentences are meaningless, they just make the text flow better. Learn to skim around these. One reading is sufficient. Unless it’s something you are highly interested in, more than one reading is needed. Skim once then go back and fill in the blanks. Don't skip passages. If something is irrelevant to the rest of the text skip it! A faster rate means less comprehension. Learning to quickly skim and find the main ideas can actually improve reading speed.
