“The time to act is now”

Collaborative Effort for SAFETY Recommendations Administration from the listed law enforcement agencies and School District have teamed up and created a comprehensive plan to immediately increase the safety of our children and staff inside the Shelton School District. We NOW have the opportunity to finally put into place all the plans that we have been strategizing with the school district for years. The following recommendations will increase the safety of our children and staff, and reduce the likelihood of a mass casualty incident in our jurisdiction.

We are Advocating to INCREASE the Number of Properly Trained Police Officers in our SCHOOLS! Immediately create two new School Resource Officer Positions in our District. Education and Training for EVERY Student and Staff member in our District on how to respond to a critical incident. Front-loading information to all Parents/Guardians. Every School will undergo a comprehensive evaluation from an expert in Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED).

School Resource Officer Adding 2 full-time school resource officers to our District. We currently have 1. Cost to School District: $121,740 (Salary/Benefits) Total for two: $243,480 Provided by Shelton Police: -Fully Trained Police Officers -Patrol Vehicle -Uniforms/Equipment -CPTED Expert Analysis for Every School. -Alternate Funding will Continue to be researched.

Increased COVERAGE for our Children and Staff Officer A: Shelton High School Oakland Bay JR. High Officer B: Mt. View Elementary Olympic Middle School Officer C: CHOICE High School Evergreen Elementary Bordeaux Elementary INCREASED COVERAGE Officers can ROAM or Respond to any and all incidents occurring at our Schools without relying solely on patrol Increased Response Times Reduction in Overall Crime

Implementation SPD can implement this plan in our Schools with in 2-weeks on an overtime basis. SPD can have partial implementation of 1 officer within 2 months and full completion by Fall of 2018.

Conclusion We can’t say when and where tragedy will occur, but we can properly PLAN for it and take educated preventive steps to reduce it’s likelihood. Our Children and Staff DESERVE our immediate ACTION!
