Explain the relationship between Attendance and Achievement. Although the graph is focused on GCSEs, the reality is that it can apply to almost any qualification

Ask audience what they think the Maths & English Challenge is. If you are on a GCSE Maths or English programme, the challenge is for you to gain either a grade A*, A, B or C. It is a self-challenge that you need to take on Why? Next slide……

Why are GCSE maths and English important? For University For Apprenticeships For Work   For University – Most if not all universities require students to have a GCSE grade A* to C in maths and English before their main qualifications are considered. For Apprenticeships – Advanced apprenticeships require candidates to have a GCSE in maths and English For Work – most workplaces ask candidates for GCSEs in maths and English. Also, on average, people tend to change their four times in their lifetime. GCSE maths and English are the passport which allow this movement between jobs to happen.

Question to student cohort, which one would you rather be? Click for the quote to appear. Give an example of a ‘small effort’ – e.g. to persevere when the homework starts to mount up. To sacrifice watching your favourite programme on TV to complete a piece of homework on-time. Click against for the ‘be here’ sign. Explain that regardless of all the effort investments made outside the class, the most important thing is to be in class on-time every time. Remind them that ‘WKC time is 5 minutes before’.
