Explain What he means… Is that rather than it being immigrants are taking American jobs, it is actually more like Americans and immigrants are arguing on which jobs each of them want. That when Americans work jobs, they actually end up having to pay more than immigrants do.
Chomsky’s Main Claim “”Immigrants take American jobs” is one of the most common arguments brandished to justify the need for a restrictive immigration policy.” (Pg. 3) What she means by this is that the concept of “Immigrants take American jobs” is a statement that is only used as an excuse to justify the need for restrictive laws against immigration.
Chomsky’s Supporting Claims and Evidences “The first fallacy lies in the very concept of “American” jobs.” (Pg.3) She uses Second-Hand Evidence to help support this claim. (Pg.4-7)
Chomsky’s Supporting Claims and Evidences “The second fallacy is closely tied to the first: the notion that immigration and immigrants reduce the number of jobs available to people already in the United States.” (Pg.3) She uses Second-Hand Evidence to help support this claim. (Pg.7-10)
My Stance My stance on this is that I am against the idea of this myth being correct.
Connection The connection of the myth to the article, “In the Strawberry Fields” is that workers and their working conditions in the article are related to the immigrants and their working conditions in the myth. Strawberry picking: A job that Americans want?
