How did the Earth develop an atmosphere? The Launch Pad Wednesday, 11/1/17 How did the Earth develop an atmosphere? Earth’s primitive atmosphere, which consisted mainly of H2O vapor and CO2, was formed by a process called “outgassing”, in which gases trapped in the planet’s interior are released by volcanic eruptions.

The Launch Pad Wednesday, 11/1/17 List, in order, the major steps involved in the creation of Earth’s atmosphere and Oceans 1. Volcanic outgassing produces Earth’s primitive atmosphere composed of water and carbon dioxide gases.
