National, Local, and State Government

Three levels of Government There are three levels of Government National, state, and local Each level has leaders National Government leaders: president and vice president State leader: The governor Local leaders: mayors and parish presidents

Federal (National) The Federal Government is the national Government The jobs of the Federal Government are Maintain the military Be in charge of Post Offices Collect Taxes Approves all medicines and makes sure foods are safe In charge of prisons

Federal (National) Sets up places for people to vote for leaders Help maintain parks The FBI helps keep us safe

State (Louisiana’s Government) Give people drivers licenses Controls the hospitals in the state Controls what information is taught in schools Maintains parks Maintains prisons The state police help keep us safe Maintains the roads

Local In charge of Firefighters, police, and EMTs Takes care of libraries, local parks, and sports fields Maintains roads Collect the garbage Provide water and electricity to homes and businesses Hires teachers and builds schools Keeps communities safe with local police Set up places to vote for leadrers

Taxes Citizens pay taxes to the government The money collected from taxes helps the government pay for the services they provide
