Rounds of Summer Activity Mini-Summit Group Work ----- Stakeholder Surveys Leadership Meeting (As needed) Steering Committee Meeting 3-week cycle

Progression of Work Round 1 Round 2 Round 3 Round 4 Round 5 Round 6 Establish working groups and “the most important goal” Round 2 Develop goals & objectives – continue work on initiatives Round 3 Develop lists of actions for each initiative Round 4 Evaluate & prioritize actions Round 5 Identify metrics, resources, milestones Round 6 Assemble the strategic plan Public Event Survey: “The Most Important Goal” Survey: Values Survey: Mission, Vision, & Goals Survey: If needed

Design Assumptions for Phase 2 We will organize project groups for each strategic initiative. Output from the project groups will create the pieces of the overall university plan. The mini-summits will provide a forum and structure for all groups to accomplish most of the work. Each group will have minimal “homework” between each session. We need to include enough participants to -- tap all of the essential stakeholder perspectives accommodate individual needs (vacations, etc) We need a critical mass of committed individuals in each group. We will rely on the power of self-organizing.

Role of Participants in SI Groups Help to Develop a Focused Plan for a Strategic Initiative Aspiration statement: Description of future impact through this theme Objectives: How the initiative will contribute to areas of strategic focus Actions: The specific projects that will be included in the initiative Milestones: The projected timeline for accomplishing each action Indicators and Metrics: Description of how to track our progress Resources and Support: Description of the conditions required for success

Principles of Self Organizing Vote with your feet! Commit to work on the current tasks for a particular topic for a period of time that you clearly communicate to others. Feel free to make a contribution to other topics. Theme coordinators should remain with a single group. Recruit others to join your efforts. Anyone can participate and contribute as they are able.
