Organisms and Their Environments Spring 2018

Organisms and Their Populations Habitat An area where an organism lives Includes both biotic and abiotic factors

Organisms and Their Habitat Niche All strategies and adaptations a species uses in its environment including: Type of food an organism eats How it obtains food and shelter When and how a species reproduces and survives **No two species can share the same niche in the same habitat.**

Organisms and Their Habitat Predators- Organisms that seek out and eat other organisms. Prey Organisms that are eaten. Symbiosis- Any relationship in which two species live closely together.

Symbiosis Type: Mutualism Description- both species benefit from a relationship Example: flowers and insects rhino and a tick bird

Symbiosis Type: Commensalism Description: One organism benefits and the other is neither helped nor harmed. Examples: Trees and moss Whales and barnacles

Symbiosis Type: Parasitism Description: One organism lives on or in an organism and harms it. Example: Dogs and ticks Human and mosquito
