Direct Objects

Direct object: who or what receives the action of the verb Susi threw the ball to Tom. What did Susi throw? Pronoun: a word that takes the place of a noun it Susi threw the ball to Tom. What pronoun replaces the ball? What did Susi throw? it, referencing the ball

Direct Object Pronouns The hardest concept for students to grasp is that they go BEFORE the conjugated verb. It is SO different from English. It I threw?!? Them I bought?!? Direct Object Pronouns Direct translation does NOT work for this. Agree in gender & number with the noun they replace Go before the conjugated verb OR if there is an infinitive after the conjugated verb, attached to an infinitive Singular Plural Masculine Lo Los Feminine La Las

Where do direct objects go in the sentence? 1. A direct object noun goes after the conjugated verb. Notice, this sentence says NOUN. The noun is what gets replaced with the pronouns lo/la/los/las. So this is before any modifications have been done to the direct object. Example: I want to buy the keychain. Yo quiero comprar el llavero. 2. A direct object pronoun goes before the conjugated verb. Here, we have replaced the NOUN with a PRONOUN. This means the lo/la/los/las goes BEFORE the conjugated verb. Example: I want to buy it. Yo lo quiero comprar. 3. If there is an infinitive after the conjugated verb, you can attach it to the infinitive. Example: I want to buy it. Yo quiero comprarlo.
