Who wrote “A Visit From St. Nick”?

Read the poem here: http://blackdog.net/holiday/christma s/twas.html

When it was originally published in 1823, it was anonymous.

After a few years, Clement C. Moore took credit for the poem.

However, this accreditation has come under scrutiny and another author’s name has been attributed with writing this beloved poem.

Recently, some scholars have begun to argue that the true author was a gentleman farmer, and Revolutionary War soldier named, Henry Livingston, Jr. He died only 5 years after the poem was originally published.

Your assignment is to read through the following websites in your groups, and determine who you believe wrote the poem.

Once you decide who you believe wrote the poem, your group will create a power point and presentation to persuade others to your side of thinking.

This grade will count 3 times. The 1st grade will be based on your participation in the assignment, it will be given to you by your fellow group members, so be sure that you’re working. The 2nd grade will be based on your worksheet, so make sure it’s completely filled out.

Overall presentation – up to 30 points The 3rd grade will be based on your presentation. This will be a test grade. Overall presentation – up to 30 points Power Point presentation – up to 20 points Oral Presentation – up to 20 points Works cited slides – up to 10 points Creativity – up to 10 points

Read through the following websites for evidence on who wrote the poem.

http://www.nysl.nysed.gov/collections/stnick/ http://www.literarytraveler.com/articles/night_before_christmas_author/ http://www.nbcnews.com/news/other/twas-trial-christmas-who-really-wrote-famous- poem-f2D11759202 http://www.nytimes.com/learning/general/featured_articles/001027friday.html https://www.sethkaller.com/about/educational/tnbc/ You may use any of these cites, any of the links they provide, or articles from the Haltom library databases to form your argument.

Use the following link to help with creating your citations slide: http://www.citationmachine.net/

Now, fill out your worksheet. Your project will begin today, Tuesday November 29. Your presentations will occur on Monday, December 5. Your presentation should be at least 3 minutes long. Points will be deducted for presentations under 3 minutes. Before you begin your project, one of you needs to create a folder for your presentation and share it with each of your teammates. Now, fill out your worksheet. HAVE FUN!!!!
