Modulacija in demodulacija signalov (prirejeno po gradivu avtorja N Modulacija in demodulacija signalov (prirejeno po gradivu avtorja N. Grabant) Modulacijski postopek omogoča da lahko informacijske signale (npr. zvok, sliko, merilni signal,…) prenašamo na daljavo brezžično ali preko kabelske povezave. Poleg tega nekateri postopki modulacije omogočajo prenos signalov na pomnilniške medije (magnetni trak, mag. kartice,..) nekateri modulirani signali (npr.PWM) pa imajo široko uporabnost na področju krmiljenja in regulacij. Modulacija je lahko analogna ali digitalna. Demodulacija je obraten postopek pri katerem dobimo na sprejemni strani bolj ali manj kvalitetno rekonstruiran originalni signal.

(Značilni oscilogrami) Digitalne modulacije na osnovi sinusnega nosilca (Značilni oscilogrami) ASK-Amplitude Shift Keying FSK-Frequency Shift Keying PSK-Phase Shift Keying Edina razlika med analogno modulacijo in digitalno modulacijo je, da digitalne modulacije omejuje modulacijo bočnih pasov z diskretnimi vrednostmi in bolj redko ta način ne spreminjanja vrednost signala med največjo in najmanjšo vrednostjo. Ko se AM, FM ali PM uporablja pri digitalni modulaciji se njihova imena spremenijo v ASK, FSK in PSK. Kratica SK se je prišla iz shift keying (premik tipke), ki je izpeljana iz telegrafske tipke (telegraph key). Moderna uporaba pomeni premikanje med diskretnimi stanji. Diskretna stanja nastajajo z digitalizacije govora z uporabo analogno-digitalnega (A / D) pretvornika. The only difference between analog modulation and digital modulation is that digital modulation restricts the modulating baseband signal to discrete states rather than allowing the modulating signal to take on any value between a maximum and a minimum value. When AM, FM or PM are used in a digital modulation scheme the names become ASK, FSK and PSK. The SK stands for shift keying and is derived from the telegraph key. The modern use implies shifting between discrete states. These discrete states are created by the digitizing of voice using an analog to digital (A/D) converter.
