Elements element - a substance composed of a single kind of atom that cannot be broken down into another substance by chemical means.

Each element square represents 1 atom of that element Mass

Atomic Number number of protons found in the nucleus of an atom ALSO number of electrons surrounding the nucleus of an atom

Symbol an abbreviation of the element name

Atomic Mass the mass of the atom Remember… 1 Proton = 1 amu 1 Neutron = 1 amu can sometimes be used to help identify the number of protons & neutrons in an atom Mass
