Intro

Creating Commitment Emotional Attachment Participation Teamwork Commitment involves a strong emotional attachment to the goals of the organization and the aims of the change effort (Spector, 2013). When upper management and senior level decision makers champion change; the employees will embrace the mutual feeling. As employees embrace this emotional side and understand the commitment of their superiors; participation during the change process begins to develop. Teams of employees who understand their role(s) will become more engaged during the change when given a chance to make decisions during process development. The “promise” of the change made by upper level management and decision makers enables employees to become committed when they have full communication regarding the change.

Creating Commitment Individuals can develop commitment to the choice as well as feeling responsibility for implementing that choice. When people participate in the design of change (in the diagnosis, action planning, and implementation stages), they will be more motivated to alter their behaviors (Spector, 2013). Motivating employees is the key player in developing commitment from individuals during a change process.
