Characteristics of a Mentally Healthy Person

Mentally Healthy Positive Self Esteem Sense of Belonging Sense of Purpose Positive Outlook Autonomy- sense of independence, confidence to make a responsible decision

Mentally Healthy Realistic about Strengths and Weaknesses Open minded, flexible Respects other and needs of others Uses talents and abilities in a good way Avoids high risk behavior (next class) Good time management, yet able to relax

Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs Basic Human Needs! Studied by a great psychologist Abraham Maslow. 5 different levels

Level 1-Physical Needs Satisfy basic needs of: Hunger Thirst Sleep Shelter Lack of these can lead to illness (chronic and communicable) and eventually death!

Level 2- Safety Needing to be secure from danger Both physically and psychologically Physical @ home @ school Within community Psychological Feeling secure, trusted
