Happy Easter

The Jewish Easter The origins of Easter

The Jewish Easter is called Pesach and celebrates the liberation of the Hebrews from Egypt through Moses and brings together the immolation of the lamb and the unleavened bread. Pesach means "pass over" and is derived from the story of the tenth plague. The Jewish Easter indicates the liberation of Israel from slavery under the Egyptians and the beginning of a new freedom with God to the promised land. The Jews living within the borders of Israel celebrate Easter in seven days. With Christianity Easter means the passage from death to life for Jesus and the transition to a new life for Christians. The Christian Easter represents the resurrection of Jesus, while the Jewish Easter represents the liberation from slavery in Egypt

Italian Easter traditions

Easter is one of the most important festival in Italy and it is celebrated as a religious and family occasion. In Italy during the last days before the Easter Sunday are held various rites and many ceremonies: you can bless the homes, eat lamb and distribute the typical Easter symbols, like chocolate eggs and sweets. In Italy, on Easter morning, the people go to church to bless the eggs and then they eat them during lunch. Others Italian typical foods of the Easter lunch are the lamb baked with potatoes and the pastiera, that is a typical sweet of Naples made of puff pastry, cottage cheese, boiled wheat and candied fruit.
