The Finished Product of Sin Title Slide. Tonight, we want to discuss a very serious and sober subject. Sin has been around a long time. Much has been said about it—some bad and some good. Sin is defined as: transgression of law or missing the mark (1 Jno.3:4). But this doesn’t tell us enough; we need to examine where SIN LEADS a man. That will tell us much about the benefits or dangers of sinful conduct. Let us begin by examining James 1:12-15… James 1:12-15
James 1:12-15 “Blessed is the man who endures temptation; for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him. Let no one say when he is tempted, I am tempted by God; for God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He Himself tempt anyone. But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed. Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death.” Endures temptation—must resist and learn to say NO! {Jam.4:6,7} Temptation is a test of one’s love for God. (Jno.14:15; 1 Jno.3:22-24) Temptation did not come from God, but from our adversary. (Gen.3:1-6; 1 Pet.5:8) We are tempted by our own lusts and enticed—allurement and the trap! (2 Cor.11:13-15) Lust is conceived in the heart and gives birth to sin. Full-grown sin results in DEATH (Rom.6:23). The Deadly cycle of Sin. This cycle is certain, and it always runs its course.
Satan’s Game Motive—Murder Method—Lie Result—Spiritual Death Means—Sin!!! Do not underestimate this adversary. He is an expert at what He does. Motive—is to MURDER every good thing God gave mankind: Health, Marriage, Children, Relationships (physical and spiritual), love, happiness, and ultimately the soul. Method—The LIE (Gen.3:1-6; Jno.8:44; 2 Cor.11:13-15. It is God who tells the TRUTH (Jno.10:10; 8:32) Satan tries to convince us that disobeying God’s will is the ONLY thing that can bring true happiness. It’s a terrible lie!! Result is always the same—SPIRITUAL DEATH (Rom.6:23). Mark it down. Whatever path one takes (1 Jno.2:15-17), the SIN road always ends in the same place. Need some proof? Let me offer some evidence for your consideration…
Strong Drink Proverbs 23:29-35 Proverbs 20:1 Leviticus 10:9 Strong Drink (Leviticus 10:9). The priest had to be able to tell the difference between holy and unholy, clean and unclean. Proverbs 20:1 and Proverbs 23:29-35 tell where drinking leads—destroyed homes, divorce, poor health, and untold misery and sorrow. (Stories—drunk kills eight people in Indiana; Bingham family; destruction of the soul.
Sexual Sin Proverbs 3:3-6 Proverbs 6:25-29 Proverbs 7:21-27 Solomon David Sexual Sin (Prov.3:3-6; 6:25-29; 7:21-27; 9:17-18). Examples: David and Solomon. Lead to unwed mothers, abortions, unloved children, sexual disease, immorality. (Over 1 billion abortions since the 1973 Supreme Court decision.) Destroy homes, marriages, and lives.
Love of Money 1 Timothy 6:8-10 Jeremiah 17:11 Luke 12:15 What it can’t buy Ephesians 4:28 Wrong priority Love of Money You can’t take it with you (1 Tim.6:8-10). It will leave him and leave him a fool (Jere.17:11). Life does not consist of the abundance of one’s possessions (Lk.12:15). Work is honorable, and so it money, if our priorities are correct (Eph.4:28) Can money be worth the loss of your soul? {Examples and illus}
Worldly Pleasures 1 Timothy 5:6 Proverbs 14:13 1 John l:15-17 Hebrews 11:24,25 The devil perverts the true use of the pleasures God created Fun and sin have a cost Luke 15:11-32 Worldly Pleasures 1 Tim.5:6—nothing gained. Proverbs 14:13—grief is the end of mirth. 1 Jno.1:15-17—love of the world is foolish because the world is passing away. Heb.11:24,25—pleasure is but for a season. The devil perverts the true use of the pleasures God created. Unfortunately, the truth is—sin is fun, but it has a cost. God is not seeking to keep us from pleasure—but pain.
Human Morality and Religion Jeremiah 10:23 Proverbs 14:12 “Good enough” to be saved? Nobody is good enough. Romans 5:9 Can’t earn or merit salvation. Can establish my own terms and receive the same reward. Human Morality and Religion Jeremiah 10:23; Prov.14:12 None of us is “good enough” to be saved. We’re saved by God’s grace and blood (Rev.1:5). Rom.5:9—We’re justified by His blood. Still, one cannot write his “own ticket and terms” that God must accept! God’s position is firm; He will not waiver. Salvation is a gift, but man must accept the gift (Rom.6:23).
