RAMADAN Ramadan is an Islamic holiday in which Muslims must fast RAMADAN Ramadan is an Islamic holiday in which Muslims must fast. This means they do not eat or drink during the daylight hours. NO! NO! NO!

1. Why is Ramadan celebrated 1. Why is Ramadan celebrated? - When Muhammad received messages from God, he was fasting - Also Ramadan is a time for Muslims to re-focus on the worship of God - Ramadan is also a time to practice self-control and become aware of the needs of those less fortunate

2. When is Ramadan celebrated 2. When is Ramadan celebrated? - Ramadan is celebrated during the ninth lunar month - A lunar calendar means it is based on the phases of the moon with each month beginning when a new moon appears and having about 29-30 days -Because of this, Ramadan falls at a different time each year

How is Ramadan celebrated? - Muslims do not eat or drink during the daylight hours for one month - Muslims also must refrain from gossiping, stealing, and cheating during this month - Muslims also try to make peace with people who may have wronged them or who they may have done something wrong to - They also spend time strengthening relationships with family and friends

- Muslims also try to help the poor even more during this month by: - Collecting food for the poor - Donating clothes, blankets, and heaters to the poor - Donating money - Donating their time (soup kitchens, etc.) - Muslim children go to school during Ramadan, but teachers do not give as much homework
