The Life of Christ Lesson 3 The Ministry of John the Baptist The baptism of Jesus by john Jesus’ temptation in the wilderness John the Baptist’S Testimony of Jesus

Jesus’ Temptations In The Wilderness – Matthew 4:1-11; Mark 1:12-13; Luke 4:1-13 2nd Temptation – “If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down …” (Matthew 4:5) The need to walk by faith and not by sight. 2 Corinthians 5:7 The need to understand proper use and application of God’s word. 2 Timothy 2:15. Reconcile and compare scripture. Scripture is sufficient for all we need. 2 Timothy 3:16-17; Colossians 3:16

Jesus’ Temptations In The Wilderness – Matthew 4:1-11; Mark 1:12-13; Luke 4:1-13 3rd Temptation – “All these things I will give you, if You fall down and worship me.” (Matthew 4:9) What “things”? The things of this world. Some question if Satan had the ability or authority to fulfill what he promised. Granted, Satan is the “god of this world” – 2 Corinthians 4:4; John 12:31 Doesn’t matter – Satan doesn’t fulfill on what he promises us does he? Did he fulfill his promise to Adam and Eve, Esau, King David or anyone else for that matter?

Jesus’ Temptations In The Wilderness – Matthew 4:1-11; Mark 1:12-13; Luke 4:1-13 3rd Temptation – “All these things I will give you, if You fall down and worship me.” (Matthew 4:9) Was not Jesus promised a kingdom with all authority and dominion? (Daniel 7:13-14; Isaiah 9:6-7) Was He not promised that He would return to His former glory? John 12:28; 17:1-5

Jesus’ Temptations In The Wilderness – Matthew 4:1-11; Mark 1:12-13; Luke 4:1-13 3rd Temptation – “All these things I will give you, if You fall down and worship me.” (Matthew 4:9) Could He have it all … spiritual and physical dominion? Matthew 6:19-24 Could He have it all … Satan didn’t say He had to stop worshipping God. Could He have it now … and not later? Hebrews 11:24-26 Could He have it without the cost of the sacrifice of His life on the cross? Luke 14:25-28

I choose to serve My Father and only Him! Jesus’ Temptations In The Wilderness – Matthew 4:1-11; Mark 1:12-13; Luke 4:1-13 3rd Temptation – “All these things I will give you, if You fall down and worship me.” (Matthew 4:9) Jesus’ response: “Be gone Satan! For it is written, ‘you shall worship the Lord your God and serve Him only.’” Deuteronomy 6:13; 10:20; cf. Matthew 16:23 I choose to serve My Father and only Him!
