A little bit about Victoria… The aim of this now annual netball event is to celebrate the memory of Victoria Hawkins, a fantastic netballer who was well known in the netball community for playing for McCarthy Stars and Panthers. After Vicky's unexpected death in 2014, her friends and family arranged a tournament in her honour which has now developed into a festival of netball to enable anyone to take part in the game Vicky loved to play.  Now in its fourth year, the netball festival will bring Victoria's family and friends together to play a sport she loved to play and competitive teams can play a tournament in memory of a fantastic player.  It is hoped that the festival is well supported to raise money for Nelsons Journey who have been a continuous support to Victoria's husband, Mark and their children Izzy and Max. Victoria who worked in the Accident and Emergency unit at the Norfolk and Norwich hospital had cardiomyopathy, [diseases of the heart muscles].  She had been receiving care from the hospital for her condition but had been given the ok apart from medication a year before her family holiday of a lifetime to Florida.  Unexpectedly, Victoria passed away on 31 October 2014 from Viral Myocarditis whilst on this holiday with her family. The netball festival will run as previous years with the festival opening with the fun but still very competitive fun tournament in the morning, followed by a competitive tournament in the afternoon - full details of entry criteria can be found in this entry pack. Just like previous years there will be a tombola, raffle, cake stall and bouncy castle. Josh – JBC Sports Therapy will also be available to treat any niggles with sports massages! In addition there will be a food outlet (wraps) and coffee/snack van throughout the tournament for friends, family and players to enjoy. In previous years its been a great day out for all of the family, whether you are playing or just watching…..or enjoying the cakes and tombola!

Entry Information Victoria’s festival will take place on Saturday 30th June 2018. The closing date for entries is the 16th June – unless places filled earlier. The day will be split into 2 parts – the morning session we will be hosting a fun tournament for teams who don’t normally play netball and fancy some fun whilst playing the sport that Vicky loved. This year we have decided to cap teams to a maximum of 2 affiliated netballers per team. If you can’t get a team together but would love to play, then get in touch and we will try and pull a team together for you! The afternoon tournament will be for affiliated players/teams who play netball. You will be required to provide an umpire at the appropriate level as detailed below. All of these games should be “friendly” but “competitive”. Minimum age for players is 14 years old. Numbers are limited and entry is on a first come first served basis. Application forms are to be returned to Lisa Price, 7 Charolais Close, Trowse, Norwich, NR14 8GD by 16th June. Cost - Entry fee per tournament is £25 A deposit of £50 per team is required and will be returned on the day when you register at the tournament. Any cancellations must be given in writing at least 72 hours prior to the tournament. Teams withdrawing after this time will forfeit their deposit. Please make cheques payable to McCarthy Netball Club and sent to the address at the bottom of the application form. Please get in touch if you would like to do a bank transfer for the entry fee. All money from entries to the tournament and money raised throughout the day will be donated to Nelsons Journey on completion of the tournament, with the amount donated announced to all teams once calculated. Umpires - For the Fun tournament we will supply umpires – if you are an umpire & would like to volunteer to umpire at this session then please get in touch using the email address provided. For the competitive tournament teams are to supply at least one named umpire on the application form who holds minimum of progressing beginner umpire award. Your umpire may need to umpire whilst his or her own team is playing. If you have concerns or questions regarding the umpiring please get in touch. Other - A tombola prize is requested from each team entering and brought along on the day. Any profit made will be donated to our chosen charity. We will once again do a raffle, so if you work somewhere or know anyone that would be able to donate a great raffle prize then please let me know.
