Constructed Response Questions September 7 2016 Constructed Response Questions What are they? How do we answer them?

What is a constructed response question? A constructed response is a type of open-ended essay question that demonstrates cognitive knowledge and reasoning. The answer must be provided using information that can be found in a particular text or other prompt (map, picture, graphic organizer, etc.) and is not meant to demonstrate opinion, but to show how you are able to extract information and use this as the basis for forming a complete answer.

The constructed Response paragraph should have 6 sentences

First Sentence The topic sentence Tells the reader what the paragraph is about, and answers your driving question

A specific example that answers the question Second Sentence 1st Example/Reference A specific example that answers the question

Explanation of first reference Third Sentence Explanation of first reference Explain how your first reference answers the question

State another specific example that answers the question. Fourth sentence 2nd Example/Reference State another specific example that answers the question.

Explanation of second reference Fifth Sentence Explanation of second reference Explain how your second reference answers the question.

Sixth Sentence Clincher A final sentence that wraps up the paragraph, and refers to the driving question

Some people use an acronym Machines and gadgets have made life easier and more fun. Some machines we could not imagine living without.
