ACT Scores ACT - American College Test - measures development in English, Math, Reading, Science, and Writing. Each section is scored and averaged together to create a composite score. The ACT measures the academic concepts a student has learned in high school. The remaining ACT dates are June 9th & July 14th (new summer date). Colleges and universities will accept either ACT or SAT.

SAT Scores SAT - Scholastic Aptitude Test - reflects and supports the goals of higher education. Students will be tested on Critical Reading and Mathematics; the Writing portion is optional. The SAT Subject Test measures performance in specific subjects. Some highly competitive colleges require SAT Subject Test for placement, and even admission into certain programs. The remaining SAT date is June 2nd. Colleges and universities will accept either ACT or SAT.

Recommendations Many colleges and universities will require letters of recommendations. Recommendations from counselors, teachers, coaches, and community leaders include information about your character, personal strengths, or unique qualities that are helpful to admissions committees. When selecting a teacher, coach, or community member to write your letter of recommendation make sure to give them enough advance notice!

Naviance Student - Recommendations When you return to CATA for your SENIOR YEAR you will request recommendation letters from your assigned counselor and teachers through Naviance Student. During SENIOR NIGHT in the beginning of SEPTEMBER we will review this process from start to finish. Summer Homework - determine which teacher should complete your recommendations and request it face to face.

The Financial Aid Process Financial Aid is money that will help you pay for college. All parents/students must fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to qualify for Grants/Scholarships, Loans, or Work Study. FAFSA will open on October 1st, 2018. The most important thing to remember is to never pay for a scholarship or for scholarship information. A list of scholarships is located on the CATA Website and on Naviance Student.

Application Process & Essays Most applications will not open before August 1st, 2018. Many applications will be filled out through Common Application - the essay prompts are already available on this site. If a college or university requires essays or a personal statement it will be read. Make sure to put a lot of thought into these writings. Have someone proofread to check grammar, spelling, and content. Other online application portals include - SENDEDU, Coalition, CFNC, and College/Universities Websites

Application Process & Essays Early Action – Admissions procedure to notify students of early admission to the college. Students are not committed to accept the college’s offer of admission and may file other applications. Early Decision – Admissions plan under which you may submit your credentials early to one college, usually by October 15th of your senior year. You are notified of your status by December 1st. As part of an early decision plan, you are required to sign a statement agreeing to accept the college’s offer of admission. You MUST withdraw your application from other colleges if accepted under Early Decision.

Application Process & Essays Regular Admission – Plan under which you submit your credentials during November to February, depending on individuals. Rolling Admission – Plan under which candidates submit credentials at their convenience up to a certain date. They receive an offer of acceptance or rejection within four to six weeks. During SENIOR NIGHT in the beginning of SEPTEMBER we will review how to link your list of colleges and universities to Naviance Student. Make sure to link your Common Application to CATA!! You will be asked does your school use eDocs and you say YES!!

Junior Meetings During the month of MAY each Junior will have an individual meeting with their assigned counselor. The purpose of the meeting is to: Review after high school plans Ensure Juniors know how to use Naviance Student Allow Juniors to ask questions Give each Junior their Academy GPA

Just 39 Days Until JUNIOR YEAR ENDS!!! Make sure to use your Summer Time WISELY!!!
