Welcome to 7th Grade Social Studies! Amy Cochran

About me Born and raised in Buford; graduated from BHS in 1993 BA in Microbiology from UGA and MEd at UNG Married to Stephen, and we have 2 girls (Abby is 13, Kate is 8) Hobbies: Reading, cooking, watching football, spending time with my family

What are we studying this year? We will be exploring the continents of Asia and Africa this year in social studies. We will learn about the geography, government, economy, history, and much more! We will be completing the unit on maps, government and economy next week.

How will your child be graded? Summative Assessments: Projects/Test: 45% Benchmarks: 15% Formative Assessments: Quizzes/Daily work: 40%

Classroom Notebook Students divided their notebooks into six different sections for social studies: 1st- Warm-ups 2nd- Maps, Government and Economy (Gov’t and Econ) 3rd- Southwest (SW) Asia 4th- Southeast (SE) Asia 5th- Africa These sections will make up a study guide for each section quiz.

How to be Successful in SS I expect the students to review their notes and vocabulary. If they work hard during the class period, they will rarely have assignments at night. If students do NOT work hard in class, they can expect to have homework assignments. They will have projects from time to time that require work outside of class. I do NOT require you to spend a lot of money on projects. Many of the items used to complete the projects can be found around the house. Talk to your kids. Discuss current events and how they relate to what we are doing in class.

Website My website: http://amycochran.weebly.com/ SS website: http://7socialstudiesbms.weebly.com/ I use Google Classroom to post information for my class. You can have your child logon to Classroom to get information about projects, tests, and quizzes.
