BATIC Institute Updates 2017 AASHTO SCORT Annual Meeting I’m here today to give you an update on AASHTO’s Center for Excellence in transportation finance, also known as the BATIC Institute. This is an important center that educates and trains State DOTs and their local partners on how to utilize innovative solutions to fund and finance transportation projects. The BATIC Institute was launched in October 2015, and is delivered in partnership with the US Department of Transportation September 19, 2017

About The BATIC Institute Mission To promote public sector capacity building in the analysis, understanding, and use of transportation finance techniques through a program of training, education, and outreach to all State Departments of Transportation and their local partner agencies Focus Areas Financing Tools Revenue Initiatives Public-Private Partnerships Legislative & Policy Areas The mission and the focus areas of the BATIC Institute are listed here on this slide; this information is also available on the palm card at your seat. I am a member as are the other individuals listed on this slide.

The BATIC Institute also offers a public-private partnerships basics training that provides a high level overview of topics such as policy considerations, risk transfer, value for money, and project finance.

The Institute also has a robust webinar series that highlights projects that have used innovative financing approaches, reviews approaches like priced managed lanes, and reviews cutting edge resources state DOTs should be aware of. I most recently participated in a webinar reviewing a new AASHTO publication “Transportation Governance and Finance: A 50-State Review of State Legislatures and Departments of Transportation.”
