International projects policy Does a project contribute to the core business of the university? Keep board and management informed and involved Take board and management on travel to visit partners, Brussels etc. Build a network with Strategic Partners for multi-level cooperation Make use of existing partnerships Know the strenghts and weak points of your partners and your own Take the lead in a project only if your are experienced and ready
From idea to project Where do I start?: First question: why, what, with who, when? Think backwards: visualise the end-result (product) Which steps (activities) do you need Partnerships: what can you offer and what do you ask? Budgets and capacity: think ahead Go/no go: businesscase Internal support: management
Funding: do’s and dont’s Plan ahead and take your time: internal process discussion and meetings with partners A clear division of tasks: projectmanager grantwriter experts (contentwise, financial, legal etc.) Approach critical friends Use your network (experience, contacts, support)
Funding: do’s and dont’s Starting too late A lack of discussion with partners Only experts; no critical friends A projectmanager without a team No internal support
How to find partners? Own network Info days (in Brussels and your own country) EU project database (CORDIS) Enterprise Europe Network Social media (LinkedIn) National Contact Point European networks
