METAPARADIGM CONCEPTS AS DEFINED BY ORLANDO ENVIRONMENT Involves factors beyond nurse control (other patients, necessary equipment, hospital protocols, presence of family members) Nurse uses patient response to these factors to create a perception of patient needs Nurse should assess the environment and seek external resources to make changes that can lessen patient stress NURSE Uses the nursing process to discover patient needs and their response to nursing interventions A profession that is constantly evolving based on nurse- patient responses Consider physical and mental needs Treat holistically

Application of Ida Jean Orlando’s theory to the improvement of contemporary health care and application to evidence based practice.
