Demographics - Population Age and Ethnicity Seniors 65+ make up 30.9% of the population, an increase from 29% in 2016, and higher than FL at 18.9 and U.S. at 15.2. Highest percent of seniors is age 65-74. Hispanic population is fastest growing population at 27% compared to FL at 24.9% and U.S. at 17.8% Largest growth was individuals age 65-75.

Job Market – Annual Pay Only 53.1% of the population is in the workforce, compared to FL at 58.4% and U.S. at 63.1%. Collier has highest percent of both parents in the workforce at 71.9% compared to 67.1% in FL and 65.1% Unemployment rate is erratic in Collier compared to FL or US. Healthcare – Insurance Coverage Total number of ER visits in which patient was uninsured or underinsured was 14,523 in 2016. In Collier, uninsured males between ages 25 and 34 is higher than FL or U.S. at 44.9% and 29.7% for females in same category. Compared to males in FL is 27.3% and 18.9% in U.S. Females in FL is 19.7% and 12.9% in U.S.

Education – Language & Literacy 22% of CCPS K-5 students are enrolled in LEP classes (Limited English Proficient) compared to 8.5% in U.S. 46% of students in 3rd grade attending CCPS are reading below Grade Level. Literacy Rate for Collier County residents is 16.5% compared to 12% in FL and 8.6% in U.S.

Education – Students at Risk Preparation for College Guidance Counselor to Student Ratio in Collier County is 1:327, while the ratio recommended by the American School Counselor Association is 1:250. Senior Women -Homelessness Senior women are emerging as a small but critical subset of homelessness. During a ten month period in 2016, 21 senior women contacted Jewish Family & Community Services of Southwest Florida because they were homeless or about to be evicted. The waiting list for affordable senior housing is often three to five years.

Senior Women – as Caregivers In Collier County there are about 12,772 people living with Alzheimer’s disease and 27,843 caregivers of which, 63% (17,540) are women.
