New Industries New cotton textile mills The south grew a lot of cotton  they took the cotton to their textile mills and made textiles (cloth). How can they show it off? Exposition-a large, public display of art or trade goods. Kind of like a fair.

International Cotton Exposition Held in Atlanta to showcase all of the new industries Atlanta has to offer. Three different ones held in 1881, 1887, & 1895. Henry Grady was the great promoter of the first 2 expositions. -Voice of New South -Supported northern investment in southern industry

International Cotton Exposition The exposition displayed equipment for making textiles (cloth). It also displayed cotton plants from different nations. Atlanta’s main product-cotton

International Cotton Exposition The exposition also showcased other Southern products like: Sugar Rice Tobacco

Effects of the International Cotton Exposition Millions of dollars were invested in Atlanta by people who believed that Atlanta’s industries would make them a lot of money. New jobs were created because the more industries, the more employees those industries needed. Atlanta became known as the “center” of the New South.
