At each growth stage, the crop faces unique dangers, and so … . . . V10-V11: Demand for moisture & nutrients very high. Phosphorus and potassium should be applied very close to the plants, as they don’t travel well. Dry soil also inhibits nutrient uptake. V12-V13: Moisture & nutrient deficiencies seriously reduce number of seeds and ear size. Care must be taken not to cultivate too close to plants to avoid root damage. V14-V15: Most critical time for yield! Number of kernels mainly determined here. Dangers: nutrient & moisture deficiencies, injury (insects or hail) reduce kernel development. . . . 11/17/2018 © David W. Low & Associates, Ltd. 2002-2003, All Rights Reserved

… unique models will be built for growth, quality, and yield . . . V10-V11: Growth & loss rates depend on GDD, farmer’s management of soil moisture, phosphorus, & potassium content, as well as farmer’s ability to apply close to plants. V12-V13: Growth & loss rates depend on GDD & greatly on farmer’s management of soil moisture & nutrient content. Loss rates also depend on farmer’s ability to cultivate without damaging roots.
