Groundwater Watch List Meeting

Two days without football What to do? Build the WFD – GWWL Ground Water Watch List Relax your eyes Restock beer depot Work on relationship

Introduction remarks Pesticides and relevant metabolites are excluded of watchlist process as regulated in Annex I + II Non relevent metabolites are excluded of watchlist process, but could be an issue for the working group Screening methods should be included in monitoring data process Priorisitation process (exposure and hazard) could be made by/based on REACH, ECHA, EMA databases

Groundwater watch list GWWL Definition The Groundwater Watch List (GWWL) is planned to be a list of new or emerging pollutants (chemical substances) that Member and Associated States may consider adding to their monitoring programmes on the basis that these pollutants may present a risk to achieving the environmental objectives of the Water Framework Directive (2000/60/EC). If they can be shown to be a risk, these pollutants may be considered for inclusion in the list of groundwater quality standards or threshold values noted in Annexes I and II of the Groundwater Directive (2006/118/EC)

Watch list process – Berne result Watch List (GWWL) All new/emerging pollutants Candidate list for Annex 1 & 2 Assistance for Member States' monitoring Column I Monitoring data Column II Exposure assessment Column III Prioritisation- Risk assessment

Watch list process – new version (taking into account feedbacks) List of anthropogenic substances having the potential to reach GW All new/emerging pollutants (Candidate list for Annex 1 & 2) Assistance for Member States monitoring Column I Monitoring data Column II Exposure assessment Column III Prioritisation- Risk assessment Watch List (GWWL)

Groundwater Watch list process All emerging substances except Annex I or II substances All substances Existing monitoring data (column I) Criteria: «Some» evidence for presence in GW Prioritisation via exposure assessment (column II) considering: - mobility - persistence - volume + use List of substances having the proved and/or theoretical capacity to reach GW Substances with groundwater leaching potential Prioritisation based on toxicity/ecotoxicity (column III) considering: PBT, PMT, CMR, ED, vPvB etc. for Annex I + II procedure Decision Sufficient Monitoring data Groundwater Watch List GWWL List of substances posing a risk or potential risk to GW bodies Watch list monitoring Candidate list annex I + II Revision of Annex I and II list

Criteria for column III Concentrations from column I CMR ED TTC Bioaccumulation, PBT, vPvB EQS (?) After approach is finalised, put it into time line.
