Accurately recording hours Need to know when you are scheduled to work and called out sick. Record on your WPR under comments Very detailed – Record out of school days and why, field trips, etc.

Employer contact Calling them when you are scheduled to work and cannot attend that day Abusing internship positions DO you know who your point of contact is? Do NOT avoid communication with your employer or me.

Missing WPR’s Staying on campus…. Your responsibility The only way for me to track

February Work Interviewing skills essay Job Shadow Reflection Letter of Recommendation Job Shadow Thank You Card 2 or more periods Work Journal Rubric from a different study hall for 3 periods or more of WBL Employability Skills Evaluation 3

Involving teachers & employers with wbl Impression that you make Impression of my program Infringing on their time Not being considerate of things you need from them Signatures on field trip forms Waiting until the last minute for presentations Last minute for a rush job on letter of recommendation

Presentation expectations The feedback Unprepared Didn’t have WBL apps with them Didn’t bring portfolio/Cheat Sheet Overwhelmed with last minute requests Overwhelmed period – too many people Considerate of teacher’s time and student’s interest Ranging from AWFUL to AMAZING Our purpose ? Memo Dress Props Notecards Turning in the rubric – YOU MUST COLLECT Cheat Sheet – GO OVER

BEFORE YOU PRESENT Must have final approval from me Make corrections to PPT / Presentation Show markup and print out new copy Pick up WBL Interest Applications- A FEW DID THIS.. Make arrangements with teacher- see notes page for teacher schedules- outside of this schedule, you need PRIOR approval I provide one copy of memo to teacher and rubric Print additional copies of rubric and memo from canestocareers yourself I will Ask them whether it was last minute or not Final Portfolio will be looking for graded and approved copy of presentation

Letter of Recc Doesn’t have to be from teacher See assignment details I would like the form back, but not mandatory What is the purpose of the form? What does a letter of recc look like and why should you care? Letterhead- Official Signature – Official Verification Content- Knowledgeable and descriptive But what do I do with it?

Requesting a Letter The sooner the better Fill out the sheet I’m sending an email to staff requesting that they do not fulfill any letter requests that don’t provide them with 5 business days lead time before pick up. Be CONSIDERATE of their time BE CHOOSY about who you request Someone who pulls double duty, teacher & coach

Job Shadow Essay It’s an ESSAY Formatting guidelines are posted online 2 pages MINIMUM Double spaced, One inch margin all the way around Must have a cover page formatted correctly

Job Shadow Thank you Sooner the better to get it done.. WHY? Must write it on a card Must NOT seal the envelope- I will do this after I grade Must have a STAMP on the envelope already Must have your return address Must be formatted properly Why I had you get the info while you were there== for mailing.

Why are we thanking them? What goes in the card? See Guidelines

Interview Questions Pay special attention to the formatting guidelines Pick a realistic job- can be your actual job now Where do I find job listings? Online, Classifieds in Daily Tribune, Careerbuilder.com, monster.com, indeed.com Ignore rubric on this assignment. Confusing. You are picking a question and answering it thoughtfully and with particular attention to YOUR abilities --- DO NOT COPY from the internet. MUST BE YOUR WORDS>

Juniors = Presentation skills workshop Present to me – your career presentation to “test out” Will take up a future FAB session that will be required for you to stay if you don’t test out Go over presentation skills and how to be better presenters.

Technology issues I’m aware Office online – bringing it down to MS Word on the Computer GOOGLE Doc challenges with header MAKE ME AWARE – Don’t wait until the last minute I will help you. I cannot help what I don’t know Just made aware on Nov. 29 in the lab

Negative habits trending now…. Communication with ME Letting me know as soon as you do Be sure you are taking responsibility How can you make it easier on the person with your paycheck? Your grade? Going into things unprepared Not dressing appropriately for your job or presentation Committing to something and not following through Treating internships like they are casual volunteer jobs

Grade Checks & Priorities Call meetings with your teachers/parents I am checking weekly Minding your perception PRIORITY 1 – Academics (including me) PRIORITY 2- Internship/Employment PRIORITY 3 – Social
